About the River John Needle Company
In the spring of 2003 Lismore Sheep Farm (located in Nova Scotia, Canada) started making birch wooden needles on the farm and have been selling around them around the globe ever since. Knitters and crocheters appreciate the qualities of a wooden needle or hook and appreciate that it is a local environmentally sustainable product.
Knitters and crocheters who use birch needles will tell you that they are light weight yet strong, and smooth without being slippery. The stitches just glide over the needle. River John needles have a fine coating of wax which gives the needles a little bit of grip. Wood is warm and quiet unlike plastics and metals which are cold, slippery to hold and noisy.
